Great food and drinks! One of my husband and I’s favorite

Papagayo has always been one of our favorite restaurants for the food and atmosphere. We especially like their Happy Hour and take advantage of their great small plate/appetizers and drink specials, so it wasn't surprising that we made them our first night dining out since mid-March. We were concerned about how the new "restrictions" would impact the experience. After all, no bar seating, no music, extra spacing, etc. We thought they did a great job! Menu didn't change, prices looked the same, happy hour specials still there. They also did a great job of spacing everyone out, yet making it feel like nothing had changed. Food was as good as ever! Most importantly, all the servers and staff were upbeat and enthusiastic. Great way to return to the "new normal".

What a surprise. From the outside it looks like a small bar. This was a large, and lovely restaurant. The menu is diverse and our food was delicious. Prices were on the high side. With entrees in the $25 range. Well worth the visit.

Great drinks and fresh fish tacos.

Best seafood dish I have ever had with my sea bass order. (And I am not the biggest seafood fan when it comes to restaurants.) Hubby loved his lobster risotto & Lavalicious dessert. Thank you, Shane W., for recommending this place. Wish we had discovered it sooner. Worth the price and I cannot say that often.

Great food. Chilean sea bass and the Paella were among our favorites. Great atmosphere. Live music. Service was excellent. Highly recommend.

We’ve gone to Le Papagayo frequently over the last two years — it’s our favorite breakfast in North County. The Papagayo Skillet is fantastic. Make sure you ask for their hot sauces — they have dozens of different types. The pancakes are delicious. It’s an average price for Encinitas.

Service was very quick and nice. The food was amazing. The braised short ribs were incredibly tender and fell apart with just a poke of the fork. The pulled pork was sweet and tender, as well.

This place is glorious! We met the owner, Denis (with one 'n'), and he was really sweet. Their food was amazing! Came here on a recommendation and so happy I took the advice. I will be coming back here just to try more on the menu. I may consider returning until I try everything here.

First time here and the service was great and very responsive. Was surprised that we were seated right away especially since it was a weekend brunch time. Regardless we tried a variety of dishes, short rib eggs Benedict, cinnamon roll pancakes, and shrimp and grits. We had a few critiques, the eggs were cooked too long and weren’t runny when we cut into them and the grits were a little too grainy. Other than that we would return if in town again. The four stars is definitely more so for the service and I’d give the food a little less.

Very fun funky little join with live music everyday. I had a delicious Bison burger. Recommended.

Such a fun spot! Live music, delicious food and an awesome group of fun loving staff! Definitely need to try the Seabass and Kalua Pork!! Legit Island style too🤙🏼!! The Blueberry Basil Margarita and Porch Rocker Martini hit the spot! Such a great place!!

Love this casual place with fabulous food. There's a dog friendly patio, and another patio to watch the world go by. The service was fast, accurate and pleasant. Will definitely be back.

Service was great. Food was excellent, drinks we're excellent. The location was very convenient for us. Just wish the back patio opened up earlier. So many options on the menu looked so good. So hard to decide! Ended up with cinnamon pancakes, shrimp and grits, and a caprese sandwich with truffle fries. All in all a great meal, everything was delicious. No complaints taste wise.

Nice atmosphere In these times. Skip bottomless mimosas. 18$ and you only get a strict hour 15mins. The food was good but not great, loco moco sounds amazing but was actually flat on flavor. Sweet potato fries are awesome. Fun and helpful staff. I think dinner is when they shine. And they should lower bottomless price since it’s the same price as when it used to be hourrrrsss long.

I love this place! Lunch is quick and delicious. Dinner is good, and the ambiance is amazing. Can't wait to try breakfast.

Le Papagayo was a great 1st time experience! I just left there from meeting with an old friend of mine. The only thing that wasn't great was that our food took longer than expected. The waitress told us twice that she apologizes about the food taking a long time. Other than that it was a memorable experience. I ate the shrimp and grits with scrambled eggs! It was delicious! I brought home the leftovers to have for later. I look forward to going there again. Hopefully, the food won't take as long as it did this time. Also, the menu is everlasting. They have a ton of varieties for different food!

Great food and even better service. A very good brunch. I ordered short rib tamales with eggs and chillikilies. Wrong spelling but, is very good.

Google deceived us and led us here after searching for a restaurant that serves oysters but turned out they didn't at all! Still went because the setting and environment was very welcoming. Overall, great tasting food with a great selection of drinks. The ALMANAC LOUD! Hazy IIPA was very delicious!

Great venue very near the beach. Decor is filled with art of famous musicians and beautiful photos of the ocean. We visited twice and had the corn beef hash, breakfast burrito, pancakes and eggs and no one left hungry. Food was delicious and staff were cool as well. They had live music in the evening and that certainly added to the experience.

Breakfast update. Next morning after Dinner previous night...sat myself after being ignored at the door and after asking girl with ponytail if I was too seat myself. She said yea...seat yourself. Then i got up and let girl know I was outside. Waited again for server. ...waited. Waited. Waited. Asked for a server. Sure thing. Waited. Waited. And finally left. Won't return to be ignored. Shocking since evening service was impeccable. Dinner: Service is epic, Shannon - night time waitress. Arrived around happy hour on a Thurs. Food is exquisite. Prices expected. Can't go wrong here. Salted caramel bread pudding makes you not care about your calories.

The food was excellent, as usual. We arrived close to two pm and ended up having lunch. I had the Mahi Mahi tacos and a cup of coffee. My wife had the bbq tacos and our daughter, the shrimp tacos. The food was delivered quickly. All the servers and staff wore masks and gloves. I forgot to add; they checked our foreheads before entering the restaurant.

The place was nice and the food savory. I would suggest the cooks that prepare the Spanish rice to use olive oil instead of low grade crisco or whatever stuff they use on the back, it really destroys the flavor and causes indigestion. Spanish seafood rice should also have calamari and prawns which are not included here. It does have fish which is good but could really improve with more varied ingredients and real Mediterranean olive oil. We suggest California Ilive Ranch which is quite close to the Spanish product and lower cost.

Phenomenal Greek gyros. Test drinks. Interesting decor. I'll be back.

Great local restaurant. Hip California/American take on South American cuisine. All food is quality as are the drinks. Service is great and the atmosphere is one of a kind. Great place for a group or a date.

Such great service, they made sure everyone was temperature checked (Covid) and great drinks. I’d definitely come again and recommend the steak tacos.

Great little restaurant with excellent servers. The food isn't 5 stars but it's definitely good. There's something on the menu to soothe any palette. Great place to take a date for a casual breakfast lunch or dinner.

Had dinner during Covid-19 restrictions. They did okay but service lagged a little. It felt like they were out of practice. Forgot drinks, marginal attention to table etc. Went to two restaurants this weekend and the other one clearly practiced for reopening. Food and drinks were still pretty good. I had the prime rib.

My family and I love this restaurant. It has a very diverse menu as well as great cocktails. It is an ideal place to go for brunch and my favorites are the luxury California burrito and cerviche. This is a place we always take out of town guests to as well. Can't wait to go back soon!

If you are looking for a social distance eating place, Le Papagayo has plenty of outside tables. The food is simply delicious and homy. Service is prompt and attentive. Be ready to have your temperature taken.

The menu will make our head spin - it crosses multiple continents and cultures. But surprisingly, everything was good. No complaints at all. Service was friendly. Very casual atmosphere.

Great food, service and near the beach. Alonso was our server and gave great recommendations on options and condiments (full array of hot sauces to choose from as well). The spicy pork chile verde burrito is excellent. Definitely worth stopping!

This place is fantastic! Besides the food being delicious and always spot on...their new post Covid dining experience is outstanding. They take every precaution, have supplies if you lack any and their servers are masked and gloved...feel very safe and secure their...so read this and go there!

This spot is worth a try. They serve big portions for convenient rates. Always well organized and with good character. Would recommend to others.

First time here. It was a bit pricier than I had expected but it was well worth it. The bread and pesto was tasty. Too tasty as a matter of fact. I ate so much I filled up on bread and couldn't finish my main course 😆 After the bread we ordered the Papagayo dynamite to share. It was so rich and flavorful. For my main course I got the paella. It was wonderful. The saffron rice was moist and all of the different meats were tender and delicious. The only downside was my mezcal sunrise. It wasn't mixed well so all the mezcal seemed to be floating on top. It was served with a lime wedge (always disappointing as mezcal should be served with an orange) and didn't have the Tajin rim as stated on the menu. Otherwise everything else was exceptional. Highly recommend it.

Loco Moco and the duck tacos with the fried cheese shell are a great go-to for a first time.

Doing extremely well with the restrictions of Covid. Masks are a must and temperature checked. Food is spectacular as always. Keep up the good job!!
